Tim Frenz became the first ABT Western New York champion by defeating his granddad 285-141 in our Grand Opening event at AMF Thruway Lanes. Howard Nola III opened the stepladder finals by defeating Brian Hoock 239-197. In match two Diana Murphey eliminated Howard Nola III 197-179. Diana Murphey and Tim Frenz tied at 209 in match three forcing a two-frame roll-off. Tim Frenz won the roll-off 41.4-34 to advance to the title match against his granddad, top seed Bill Frenz. There was no question of a tie in this one as Tim struck early and often as he rolled to the 285-141 final score. Champion’s Profile: Tim Frenz is an 18-year-old student. He has been bowling for 12 years and currently bowls league at Transit Lanes. Tim has a high game of 300 and a 752 high series to his credit. He was using an Ebonite Angular One drilled by Jack Jurek at the Bowlers Choice Pro Shop located inside Transit Lanes. Tim said that Jack Jurek and Grandpa Bill have helped him to develop his game and he thanked them both for all their help. Tim also thanked Ed and Lorraine for bringing the ABT to Western New York; AMF Thruway Lanes for hosting the event and Storm Bowling Products for their ball care kits. Tim said his winnings would be used for school fees and supplies and for some new tires for his car. CONGRATULATIONS TIM!Tournament Notes: Congratulations to Diana Murphey who won a new Storm bowling ball by posting the high series on Saturday. Special thanks to ABT National Director Myron Mitchell who flew in from Salt Lake City to help out with our Grand Opening event. His presence really helped to keep things running smoothly and on time. We also want to thank AMF Thruway Lanes for a great job in hosting our first event. Most of all we want to thank all the bowlers who came out to make our Grand Opening a success. We can’t wait to see what our next event will bring!
