David Lucas became the ABT’s first Western New York Masters champion by squeaking by John Nowatzki 235-234 in our Grand Opening event at AMF Thruway Lanes. Robert Graci kicked off the stepladder finals by defeating Richard Frank 259-164. In match two Rickey Grant got by Robert Graci 239-215. David Lucas then eliminated Rickey Grant 242-214 to advance to the title match against top seed and friend John Nowatzki. In a nail-biter that went right down to the final frame David prevailed over his friend John by a single pin, 235-234 to claim the title and the $800 first prize. Champion’s Profile: David Lucas is 48 years old and single. He has been bowling for the last seven years after a 20-year lay-off from the sport. David currently bowls league at AMF Thruway Lanes and has a high game of 300 and a 763 high series to his credit. He was using a Track Heat drilled by Sue Jeziorski at AMF Thruway Lanes. David said that John Nowatzki has helped him to improve his game and he also credited Sue Jeziorski for some drilling adjustments to his equipment. David thanked his girlfriend Liz Milewski and John Nowatzki for their support, AMF Thruway Lanes for hosting the event and Storm Bowling Products for co-sponsoring the ABT. He said his winnings would be used for future events. He also said that the ABT did a nice job of running the tournament. The format was good, the tournament was fair and the shot competitive according to David. Tournament Notes: Congratulations to Bill Wenske who won a new Storm bowling ball by posting the high series on Saturday. Special thanks to ABT National Director Myron Mitchell who flew in from Salt Lake City to help out with our Grand Opening event. His presence really helped to keep things running smoothly and on time. We also want to thank AMF Thruway Lanes for a great job in hosting our first event. Most of all we want to thank all the bowlers who came out to make our Grand Opening a success. We can’t wait to see what our next event will bring! CONGRATULATIONS David!
